The honest version
The easy introductions are Doodhpathri and Yusmarg, meadows within about two hours of Srinagar, and South Kashmir’s springs and Mughal gardens at Verinag, Kokernag and Achabal. Each has its own guide on this site.
Gurez is the real journey: over the Razdan pass to the Kishanganga, with log-built Dard-Shin villages and Habba Khatoon peak. It needs at least two nights and an open road, usually from around May or June to November.
Further north, Bangus and Lolab in Kupwara, and the Warwan valley in the far south-east, reward travellers who want homestays, walking and very little else. We plan these one trip at a time, around current road and access conditions.
