The price of a Kashmir package depends on five things more than anything else. Here is what they are, what is usually left out of a cheap quote, and how to compare two quotes fairly.

The short answer
The same itinerary can cost very different amounts depending on when you travel (peak weeks in May, June and the Christmas–New Year period cost the most), the hotel and houseboat category, the vehicle, and how many of you share it. Flights are separate and change daily. A low headline price usually means a lower hotel category or local costs, such as union taxis and the Gondola, left out of the quote.

Peak weeks (roughly April to June, and 20 December to early January) cost the most and sell out first. October and the quieter winter weeks are better value.

The largest single line in most quotes. A deluxe houseboat and a standard one share a name and little else.

A sedan for two, an SUV for a family, a tempo traveller for a group. Cost per person falls as the group grows.

Overnights in Gulmarg or Pahalgam cost more than day trips from Srinagar but save hours of driving.
