US travellers often need to plan international travel, domestic connections and time with family within one India visit. This page sets out the questions for a future private itinerary; it does not recommend travelling against official advice. If Kashmir is unsuitable, ask about a different India route. Keep vacation days, flight days and the nights in each destination separate when comparing prices.

US travel advice: Jammu and Kashmir is Level 4
As checked on 1 November 2026, the US Department of State lists Jammu and Kashmir at Level 4: Do Not Travel, with an exception described for eastern Ladakh and Leh. Its warning includes tourist areas in the Kashmir Valley. A private tour does not remove this warning. Review the current advisory, insurance and alternatives before making plans.

Make the destination decision before committing money
Read the linked State Department advisory and check the proposed route with your insurer before paying. Ask about emergency assistance, disruption and cancellation conditions. If considering an alternative India journey, review that destination separately; an exception in a regional advisory does not establish that another trip is suitable for everyone.
US departure city and the complete door-to-door trip
Compare the entire itinerary from your actual US departure airport to Srinagar, not just the headline international fare. An East Coast, Midwest or West Coast departure can lead to different connections and arrival dates. We do not guarantee a nonstop international sector or a fixed flying time.
Check the local calendar date for every arrival. Consider a recovery night before a domestic connection rather than expecting a long sightseeing day after the international journey. Confirm baggage rules on each sector, especially when international and Indian domestic tickets are booked separately.
Plan flexibility before returning to the US. A delayed Srinagar departure can affect an onward connection; ask your airline about through-ticket protection, changes and overnight options before choosing the last hotel night.
Indian-origin families, US passports and different documents
Check entry requirements for every traveller, including children, dual-nationality situations and OCI holders. A relative travelling on an Indian passport may have different documentation from someone holding a US passport. Use the official Indian visa portal and the relevant Indian mission for your circumstances; we do not guarantee eligibility or processing.
For a multi-generational visit, share child ages, bed arrangements and mobility needs before choosing accommodation. Confirm luggage space, vehicle access, stairs, meals and room photographs with the named suppliers. Keep family visits and pre-arranged activities visible in the schedule instead of filling every day with driving.
Combining a future Kashmir visit with wider India
A Kashmir package is not evidence that a Ladakh extension or off-piste ski trip is included or appropriate. Special activities require their own supplier scope, equipment, permissions and cover checks. Describe the actual activity you want; a broad label such as adventure does not specify those arrangements.
