Kashmir from Delhi
Delhi is the closest big city to Kashmir by air, which makes everything from a long weekend to a two-week trip possible. Here is how to choose between flight, train and road.
Flight
About 1.5 h
Train
Via Jammu or Katra
By road
≈ 800 km
Shortest trip
A 3-day weekend
The short answer
Flights from Delhi to Srinagar take about an hour and a half, with many departures a day, which makes even a three-day weekend work. By rail there is no through train yet: take a train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Vande Bharat into the valley. By road it is about 800 km, best split with a night in Jammu or Katra.

Delhi has the most flights into Srinagar of any city, and usually the lowest fares. Travellers from Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad use the same flights.
The train is a good choice if you want Vaishno Devi as well: Delhi to Katra, the yatra, then Katra to Srinagar by Vande Bharat in about three hours.
| Option | Route | Door to Srinagar |
|---|---|---|
| Flight | Delhi (DEL) to Srinagar (SXR), direct | About 1.5 h in the air |
| Train | Delhi to Katra (Vande Bharat, about 8 h) or Jammu Tawi, then Vande Bharat to Srinagar | 11 to 14 h with the change |
| Road | Delhi to Jammu, then the highway to Srinagar | Two days, ≈ 800 km |
We book flights on request and quote the live fare alongside the package, so you see the full cost before paying anything. We do not publish a flight-inclusive price because fares change every day.
| Trip | What fits from Delhi |
|---|---|
| Weekend, 2 nights | Srinagar, Dal Lake and a day in Gulmarg. Fly out Friday morning. |
| 4 nights | Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. |
| 6 nights | All four hill stations, a houseboat night and the old city. |
| With Vaishno Devi | Add two nights in Katra and travel by train. |
Delhi’s heat makes May and June the busiest months for Kashmir trips from the capital, and the most expensive. October is cooler, clearer and cheaper. For a snow weekend, December to February works well because the flight is short; keep a free half-day at the end in case snow delays your return.
