The short answer
From Katra the Vande Bharat reaches Srinagar in about 3 hours; from Jammu Tawi in just under 5. By road it is 6 to 8 hours. Our packages from Jammu and Katra start with a pickup at your hotel, the railway station or Jammu airport, and can begin the day after the Vaishno Devi yatra. In Kashmir you have one cab and driver for the whole trip.

Most guests starting in Katra take the train: it is quicker than the road and there is nothing to arrange but the tickets. Families with a lot of luggage often prefer a cab from the hotel door, with a lunch stop on the way.
Starting in Jammu, the train from Jammu Tawi, a cab and a short flight all work. We meet you at Srinagar station or the airport, or the cab collects you in Jammu.
| Option | Route | Door to Srinagar |
|---|---|---|
| Train | Katra (SVDK) to Srinagar, Vande Bharat | About 3 h |
| Train | Jammu Tawi to Srinagar, Vande Bharat | About 4 h 50 min |
| Cab | Jammu or Katra to Srinagar on the national highway | 6 to 8 h |
| Flight | Jammu (IXJ) to Srinagar (SXR) | Under an hour in the air |
We book flights on request and quote the live fare alongside the package, so you see the full cost before paying anything. We do not publish a flight-inclusive price because fares change every day.
Day 1
Check in near the base, collect your yatra registration card and rest.
Day 2
The climb to the Bhawan and back, on foot, by pony or with the helicopter to Sanjhichhat.
Day 3
The morning Vande Bharat, about 3 hours. Your driver meets you at Srinagar station; a shikara ride in the evening.
Day 4 onwards
Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg at the pace you choose, with one cab and driver throughout.
Navratri, in spring and autumn, and the summer school holidays are the busiest weeks in Katra: book trains early. Kashmir is greenest from April to June and clearest in September and October. In winter Katra stays open and Kashmir has snow, so the same trip works with warmer clothes.
