Most flights from Chennai to Srinagar connect through Delhi or Bengaluru, six to nine hours in total. A seven-night trip gives you six days in Kashmir, enough for all four hill stations and a houseboat night. The Andaman Express runs from Chennai to Katra if you want to add Vaishno Devi and continue by Vande Bharat.

For travellers from Chennai, the cold is the part to plan for. Even in May, Gulmarg and Sonamarg can be below 10 °C at night. From November to February, temperatures fall below zero. Buy or borrow proper winter wear before you leave, or arrive a day early and shop in Srinagar, where good jackets and pherans are easy to find.
Hotels in Srinagar and the resorts serve North Indian vegetarian food easily, and most offer a South Indian breakfast. Proper South Indian meals are harder to find outside Srinagar; tell us your preferences and we brief the hotels before you arrive.

The Andaman Express runs from Chennai to Katra. From Katra, the Vande Bharat reaches Srinagar in about three hours.
About seven nights. Shorter trips spend too large a share of the time travelling.
