Honest Travel Advisory
Who this Leh, Nubra, Turtuk and Pangong itinerary is NOT for
- •Anyone short on time: Turtuk is a long day out and back from Nubra. If you would rather not spend a full day driving, the Nubra and Pangong trip covers Ladakh in five nights without it.
- •Anyone with a heart or lung condition: Take medical advice before any trip above 3,500 m, then talk to us.
If any of these apply to your party, speak to us and we will adapt the route.

Questions on this itinerary.
What makes Turtuk worth the drive?
It is one of the few Balti villages on the Indian side of the Line of Control, opened to visitors only in 2010. The language, food and architecture are distinct from the rest of Ladakh, and the apricot orchards along the Shyok are the draw.
Do we need a permit for Turtuk?
Yes, the Inner Line permit (Protected Area Permit for foreign nationals), the same one that covers Nubra and Pangong. We arrange it as part of the trip.
When can we go?
June to September, when Khardung La and the Nubra road to Turtuk are reliably open.
