The short answer
It opens for about three to four weeks, from late March into April.
The Tulip Garden in Srinagar opens only while the tulips are in bloom, usually from late March into April. The exact dates depend on the weather and are announced each year: in 2026 it opened on 16 March, earlier than usual after a warm spring. The garden covers about 30 hectares at the foot of the Zabarwan hills, overlooking Dal Lake, with around 1.7 to 1.8 million tulips of more than 70 varieties. Go early in the season and early in the day.

When the Tulip Garden opens

The garden opens when the first beds bloom and closes when the last fade, which gives about three to four weeks. In most years that is from late March into April; a warm spring brings it forward, as in 2026, when it opened on 16 March. The date for 2027 has not been announced; we update this page when it is.
Tulips bloom in waves, early varieties first, so the garden is usually fullest in the first half of the season. By the last week many beds are past their best.
Entry fee and timings
In 2026 the garden was open roughly from 9 am to 7 pm. Allow one to two hours inside.
| Ticket | 2026 fee |
|---|---|
| Adults (Indian) | About ₹75 |
| Children | About ₹30 |
| Foreign visitors | About ₹200 |
How to beat the crowds
The garden draws huge crowds while it is open: in the March and April 2023 season it had about 365,000 visitors. Go when the gates open on a weekday, and avoid weekends and the middle of the day. Morning light is also the best for photographs, with the Zabarwan hills behind the beds.

Planning a tulip trip
Tulip season is short and in demand, so hotels and houseboats in Srinagar fill early once the dates are known. Book as soon as you can, and keep the plan flexible by a few days either way. Snow usually lingers at the top of the Gulmarg Gondola in April, so a spring trip can give you tulips and snow in the same week. Our tulip season package is built around the garden, and our month-by-month guide shows what else spring offers.
