School trips to Kashmir.
A school trip is planned for the teachers as much as the students: short travel days, rooms that are easy to supervise, food children will eat, and a coordinator who answers the phone at midnight.
Typical length
4 to 5 nights
Best months
Apr–Jun, Sep–Oct
Stay
Srinagar base, one mountain night
Not for schools
Ladakh (altitude)
The short answer
Keep it short, keep it in Kashmir, and keep travel days light.
Four or five nights is right for most school groups: Srinagar as the base, day trips to Gulmarg and Sonamarg, and perhaps one night in Pahalgam. Avoid Ladakh for school groups because of the altitude. April to June and September to October have the kindest weather. Every student needs original photo ID and a signed consent form, and we plan rooms, meals and timings with the teachers in charge before the trip is confirmed.

Supervision and consent
- A student-to-teacher ratio set by the school; we plan vehicles and rooms around it.
- Signed parental consent and medical forms for every student, carried by the teachers.
- Original photo ID for every student and teacher.
- Boys and girls on separate floors or wings, with teachers’ rooms alongside.
- No water activities or treks without the school’s written consent.
- A shared WhatsApp group for teachers with the next day’s timings every evening.
Food, health and comfort
Hotels serve vegetarian and familiar North Indian food alongside Kashmiri dishes; we tell them about allergies and dietary needs in advance. Nights are cold even in summer at Gulmarg and Sonamarg, so students need a warm layer every day. Before the trip we give the teachers the nearest hospital or health centre for each stop.
What parents usually ask
- Who is with the children at all times: the school’s teachers, with our coordinator.
- How they will stay in touch: prepaid SIMs from outside Jammu and Kashmir do not work here; postpaid ones and hotel Wi-Fi do.
- What the safety situation is: the school gets our current briefing before the trip is confirmed.

Questions
What people ask us.
How many days should a school trip to Kashmir be?
Four or five nights, with Srinagar as the base and day trips to the mountains.
Is Ladakh suitable for a school trip?
We advise against it for school groups: Leh is at 3,500 m and altitude sickness is harder to manage with children. Kashmir is the better choice.
What documents do students need?
Original photo ID, a signed parental consent form and a medical form. Teachers carry copies of all three.
Will the phones of students work in Kashmir?
Postpaid connections do; prepaid SIMs from outside Jammu and Kashmir do not. Hotels have Wi-Fi.
